Grade 3 -- 5 Assessments
After Grade 2, students begin to read to learn and content knowledge and acquisition begins to become a focus. In Grades 3-5 students will take the following AACPS District Assessments. Each assessment is designed to last between 45 -- 80 minutes.
- 3 reading assessments
- 3 mathematics assessments
- 2 science assessments
- 2 social studies assessments
Teachers may use the results of these assessments to help determine student progress in the course; however, teacher assessments and classwork will make up the bulk of a student's grade in each subject.
In addition to district assessments, students will also take the PARCC Assessment in literacy and mathematics and the MISA Assessment in science. The results of PARCC and MISA do not affect a student's grade.
Finally, Grade 5 students who were not identified as gifted in Grade 2 have an opportunity to take the CogAT and Performance Series to identify students as gifted.
Depending upon the student's plan (IEP, 504, EL), the appropriate accommodations found in Section 5 of the Maryland Accommodations Manual and accommodations found in the PARCC Accommodations Manual are made available to each student when appropriate for assessments.
